Richie A. Romaniszyn

Richie A. Romaniszyn, PharmD, BCPS (richard.romaniszyn@uhhospitals.org), is a pharmacy supervisor at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. He received his PharmD from Northeast Ohio Medical University and went on to complete his PGY1 pharmacy residency at Mercy Health Lorain Hospital and his PGY2 ambulatory care residency at CoxHealth in Springfield, Missouri. Romaniszyn has always been interested in digital and telehealth and has previously practiced in a variety of related areas including a remote monitoring anticoagulation clinic, multiple telehealth clinics for primary care, and starting a telehealth service for employee health patients offering no cost diabetes medications and supplies.  Romaniszyn has facilitated numerous projects related to telehealth and digital health expansion at University Hospitals. This has resulted in the pharmacy department's footprint to continue growing to provide an average of over 700 telehealth patient care visits from 80 pharmacists each day to patients within Northeast Ohio. To organize this effort, Romaniszyn has collaborated with pharmacy technicians, student pharmacists, and pharmacists across the department to maximize utilization of digital health technology in each unique role to provide exceptional patient care and adequate communication across the healthcare team.   Romaniszyn has been very active within ASHP, most recently publishing guidance material as a member of the Section of Digital and Telehealth Practitioners work group on Digital and Telehealth Pharmacy Skills. He has previously participated within the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners advisory group on Ambulatory Care Pharmacotherapy and has had roles as a CV reviewer, poster reviewer and as a networking session facilitator, presenter, and moderator at multiple ASHP Midyear Clinical Meetings.

Meet Richie A. Romaniszyn

Healthcare is undergoing a digital revolution, and I believe pharmacy must lead the way. My commitment to digital health and telehealth stems from a belief that technology, when thoughtfully applied, can dismantle the systemic barriers that prevent patients from receiving the care they deserve — whether those barriers are geographic, logistical, or economic. Expanding access for underserved and rural communities is not just an aspiration; it is an obligation.  My pharmacy background shapes how I approach this work. I see tremendous opportunity in leveraging digital tools to elevate medication management — from improving adherence through smart monitoring to delivering virtual, personalized consultations that meet patients where they are. Innovation in these areas does not replace the human element of care; it amplifies it. I believe my experience in coordinating care for over 150,000 telemedicine visits per year with patients at University Hospitals helps with knowing how to connect with patients in the most effective manner.   Effective leadership in this space demands more than technical fluency. It requires building bridges between clinical professionals and technology stakeholders, fostering environments where diverse perspectives — including those of pharmacists, technicians, students, and interprofessional partners — inform how solutions are designed and implemented. I prioritize transparent communication, inclusive decision-making, and outcomes-driven thinking in everything I do.  If elected as your Director-at-Large, I will champion a vision of digital and telehealth pharmacy that is equitable, evidence-based, and deeply connected to the lived experiences of both patients and practitioners.
