Meet Ryan J. Hannan
The profession of pharmacy stands on decades of intentional practice advancement built through leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to improving patient care. My professional philosophy is rooted in the belief that pharmacists must continue to shape the evolution of healthcare by embracing innovation, advancing our clinical roles, and demonstrating the value we bring to patients and interdisciplinary teams. Aligned with the strategic priorities of ASHP, I believe pharmacists must remain focused on patient-centered care supported by high-performing systems. Our ability to deliver safe, effective, and equitable pharmacotherapy depends not only on clinical expertise, but also on how well we design workflows, adopt emerging technologies, and integrate data to support informed decision-making. When pharmacists lead in these areas, patient outcomes improve and healthcare teams function more effectively. To achieve our full potential and secure our place as essential and irreplaceable members of care teams, pharmacists must actively participate in shaping policy, education, and practice standards. Advocacy is a professional responsibility, whether within an institution or at national scale. Through education and mentorship, we must also prepare current and future pharmacists to lead in increasingly complex healthcare environments. I believe ASHP plays a critical role in uniting voices across practice settings to advance the profession. My philosophy emphasizes service-driven leadership, thoughtful strategic planning, and a commitment to innovation that strengthens pharmacy’s ability to serve every patient, every day.
