Established in 2000, the CEO Award for Courageous Service recognizes individuals or groups of individuals who go beyond the call of duty to serve patients under emergency conditions or in times of natural disaster or other catastrophic events.

The past two years of the COVID-19 pandemic have required all of you to perform in an environment unprecedented in our lifetime. In addition to your professional responsibilities, many of you have been caring for ill family members and friends, grieving those lost to the pandemic, and often dealing with difficult economic situations. You have been caring for hospitalized and ambulatory COVID patients, in addition to giving vaccinations and working to establish vaccine confidence in your communities. You have witnessed and experienced extraordinary levels of occupational stress in healthcare.

Through it all, you have persevered and maintained an unwavering commitment to your patients and colleagues. I have been amazed at the level of dedication and resiliency you have demonstrated in the face of overwhelming demands, stress, and uncertainty.
