One Year In: A Campaign Worth Celebrating
Dear Colleagues,
One year ago today, ASHP launched We're Your Pharmacist, our national public awareness campaign, with a clear goal in mind: to shine a spotlight on the critical contributions you, our members, make to patient care each and every day.
Today, as we mark the first anniversary of that launch, we have much to celebrate.
At the outset, we promised to showcase the depth and breadth of pharmacy practice across the spectrum of specialties and settings where our members practice. And when we asked you to contribute your stories to this effort, you answered the call.
Your compelling experiences, which we have shared as written stories, videos, and podcasts across our digital channels, have brought visibility to the impact of pharmacy practice with sincerity and authenticity. Each story has been inspirational in its unique way, contributing to a growing tapestry that demonstrates the countless ways pharmacists contribute to patient care and public health in communities nationwide.
Together, what we achieved in our first year was exceptional by every measure.
In this initial year, our goal was to raise public awareness of the role of hospital and health-system pharmacists. To do this, we needed vast reach. I am pleased to share that through our integrated campaign, we generated more than 87 million impressions, exceeding our target by 24%.
Building on our broad reach, we have also been intent on creating engagement with our multimedia content and campaign website. Video served as our primary medium across social media, resulting in more than 1.8 million engagements with our campaign content—more than double our initial projections. We also drove over 121,000 visits to yourpharmacist.org, further amplifying the visibility of your stories and the essential patient care contributions of pharmacists.
Personally, one of my favorite moments during our first year was seeing thousands of members and pharmacy professionals standing together at the Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exhibition opening general session last December, holding their We’re Your Pharmacist signs high. That stunning visual captured our unified commitment to safe and effective medication use and optimal patient outcomes.
As we look ahead, we are more energized than ever to build on this momentum. In the coming months, you can expect new perspectives in our storytelling as we share stories from physicians, nurses, patients, and more. In fact, we just released an excellent campaign podcast featuring the moving story of a patient, Tammy McKinney, and how her pharmacist changed her life.
We are also launching an official campaign supporter program to enhance engagement across the profession and extend the campaign’s reach at both the national and local levels. Hospitals and health systems, schools and colleges of pharmacy, ASHP state affiliates, and other pharmacy organizations are all invited to participate. Official campaign supporters will be recognized on our campaign website and ASHP digital channels and will receive monthly campaign content to share across their digital networks. You can request more information about the program by completing this brief form.
In addition, we are stepping up our outreach to prospective pharmacy students with content curated specifically for them as we accelerate efforts to inspire the next generation of pharmacists. This summer, ASHP will bring We’re Your Pharmacist to life for more than 16,500 students at the HOSA International Leadership Conference in June. The following month, we will engage with influential educators at the annual American School Counselors Association meeting to highlight the broad range of pharmacy career opportunities available to students.
Of course, we will continue to showcase your stories and essential contributions, which will always be foundational to this campaign. Share your story today!
When the ASHP Board of Directors made its initial commitment to this campaign in 2023, we promised it would be a multiyear effort. Year one has been a great success, and we are so appreciative of everyone who has contributed, participated, and engaged in We’re Your Pharmacist thus far. You are truly helping change the narrative around what it means to be a pharmacist. But we are just getting started, and there is much work to do!
I look forward to continuing our work together to advance this important and influential initiative.
Thank you for all you do for your patients and our profession.
Sincerely,
Paul
