The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released its Core Elements of Hospital Diagnostic Excellence. Given the significant implications of diagnostic stewardship on the use of antimicrobials, US Antibiotic Awareness Week is an excellent opportunity to begin to unpack this topic. This podcast reviews the core elements and explores the opportunities for pharmacists to engage in diagnostic stewardship and how this topic has broader implications beyond antimicrobial use.
