Biohacking has been defined as “do-it-yourself biology” or “do-it-yourself citizen science merging body modification with technology”. Biohacking is performed by biology enthusiasts, citizen scientists, and other like-minded individuals to improve oneself or treat a disease. This podcast episode describes this emerging topic and what the pharmacy workforce needs to know.

SPEAKERS

Christi JenChristi Jen, PharmD, BCPS, FASHP, FAzPA is a Pharmacy Clinical Manager and PGY1 Residency Program Director at HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona after 11 years as Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist. Graduating from the University of Illinois Chicago College of Pharmacy, she completed her PGY1 residency training at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. Dr. Jen has been an active ASHP member and recently served as Chair of the Council on Therapeutics. Her professional interests include preceptor development, emergency/disaster management, toxicology including drugs of abuse, and infectious diseases.

Carolyn OxencisCarolyn Oxencis, PharmD, BCOP is a clinical pharmacy specialist at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Clinical Cancer Center. Dr. Oxencis is a Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the MCW School of Pharmacy. She is a member of the ASHP Council on Therapeutics, and a member and Past Chair of the ASHP Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Section Advisory Group on Emerging Sciences.

Rena GosserRena Gosser is the Clinical Ambulatory Pharmacy Manager at Harborview Medical Center - University of Washington Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in Seattle, WA. She currently serves ASHP as the Chair of the Council on Therapeutics and member of the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Clinical Leadership Section Advisory Group. Dr. Gosser’s professional interests include pharmacist practice advancement, health equity, and medication safety, strategic prescribing.
