In a sneak peak of everyone’s favorite collegially contentious Midyear session – Therapeutic Debates – Karen Whalen sits down with SCSS Educational Steering Committee members Kellie Goodlet, Amy Sipe, and Jessica Star to preview this can’t-miss educational session. This year’s debates are management of patients with penicillin allergy, provision of safe supply to patients with opioid use disorder, and monitoring of anti-Xa levels in patients receiving DOAC therapy.
SPEAKERS
Kellie J. Goodlet, PharmD, BCPS, BCIDP is an Assistant Professor at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy and a Faculty Clinical Pharmacist at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Arizona and PGY1+PGY2 Infectious Diseases Residency at Hartford Hospital. Her areas of interest include antimicrobial stewardship, developing resident research skills, and the management of drug resistance and opportunistic infection in immunosuppressed patient populations.
Amy Sipe, RPh has served as a Clinical Pharmacy Practitioner at the Kansas City Veteran Affairs Medical Center since 2004. In 2019 she transitioned to Academic Detailer for Veterans Integrated Service Network 15. Amy's service includes Section of Clinical Scientists and Specialists Educational Steering Committee – Year Round Education Vice-Chair, ASHP House of Delegates, ASHP Council on Therapeutics Chair, President of the Missouri Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, Section Advisory Group on Clinical Leadership, and Network Facilitator for Anticoagulation.
Jessica Starr, PharmD, BCPS, FCCP is an associate clinical professor at Auburn University and an active clinician at Princeton Baptist Medical Center, where she serves as the postgraduate year 2 internal medicine residency program director. She received her PharmD from Auburn University and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency and Specialty Residency in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. Her primary area of interest is with the cardiovascular disease states, specifically heart failure, where she is well-published and has given numerous national lectures at both ASHP and ACCP meetings.
Karen Whalen, BS Pharm, BCPS, FASHP is Immediate Past Chair of the Clinical Scientists and Specialists Educational Steering Committee (ESC) who plans and sponsors the Therapeutic Debates session. Karen’s favorite session is Therapeutic Debates; she has been a work group member, co-lead, and Program Chair. Karen is also an AJHP Senior Associate Editor and performs part-time contract work writing/revising, fact checking, and performing galley proof reviews for AHFS Drug Information and DI Essentials.
