July 2025
Dear Colleagues,
As I conclude my term as chair of the Section of Pharmacy Educators (SPE), I want to express my deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve this incredible community of educators. It has been an honor to work alongside such a passionate, thoughtful, and forward-thinking group of professionals who are committed to the growth and evolution of pharmacy education.
This year, our section has continued to deliver meaningful contributions across a wide range of initiatives. We hosted engaging networking sessions at both the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting & Exhibition and the Pharmacy Futures meeting, highlighting emerging issues such as artificial intelligence in precepting, remediation in APPEs, and the growing importance of interprofessional learning environments.
Our four section advisory groups (SAGs) were the heartbeat of these efforts. The activities and projects of the SAGs included developing podcasts, writing publications, organizing member discussions, and advancing strategic initiatives that reflect our shared commitment to innovation, collaboration, and educational excellence. I extend my sincere thanks to the SAG leaders, members, and liaisons who guided these efforts so capably:
SAG on the Development of the Educational Workforce (DEW)
- SAG Chair and Vice Chair: Lindsey Childs-Kean and Tara Higgins
- Workgroup Leaders: Emmeline Tran, Lisa Richter, Devin Lavender
SAG on the Development of Post-Graduate Education and Learning Experiences (PELE)
- SAG Chair and Vice Chair: Christopher Schriever and Carly Warner
- Workgroup Leaders: Tina Hamilton, Peter Johnson, Caitlin Prather, Bethany Baker
SAG on the Development of Student Education and Learning Experiences (SELE)
- SAG Chair & Vice Chair: Claire Latiolais and Megan Giruzzi
- Workgroup Leaders: Jessica Merlo, Jared Sheley, Vista Khosraviani
SAG on the Collaboration Between Health-Systems and Academia (CHSA)
- SAG Chair and Vice Chair: Ifeanyi Egbunike-Chukwuma and Melissa Gratz
- Workgroup Leaders: Charlotte Hook, Brittany Bates, Fatima Ghzala
I’m especially proud of how our section has embraced the "Crystal Ball 2" project, an effort led by the section executive committee to anticipate the changes ahead and position pharmacy education to thrive. The input gathered from across our membership will serve as a vital guide for SPE’s future planning.
Looking ahead, I have every confidence in the incoming leadership and our dedicated volunteers to continue advancing this important work. If you’ve been considering a more active role in SPE, I encourage you to get involved in a way that aligns with your goals and time commitments; this could be applying for a SAG, nominating a colleague for the Distinguished Service Award, or sharing your ideas with us through ASHP Connect.
Thank you for allowing me to serve. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together, and I look forward to continuing this journey with you as a member and colleague.
Warm regards,
Jen Arnoldi, PharmD, BCPS
